Raj Yogas In Kundali — Complete Guide To All Major Raja Yogas

In Vedic astrology, a Raja Yoga is a planetary combination that lifts a person to a position of authority, wealth, fame, comfort and respect — far above ordinary expectations. The word literally means “royal union.” Classical texts describe hundreds of yogas, but a few patterns repeat as the real engines of rise in any kundali. This guide explains the major Raj Yogas — how each is formed, and what it actually delivers in real life.

How Raj Yogas work

  • Kendras (1, 4, 7, 10) are houses of action and power. Trikonas (1, 5, 9) are houses of dharma, intelligence and luck. When their lords meet, action and luck combine — that is the heart of Raja Yoga.
  • Dushasthanas (6, 8, 12) are difficulty houses. When their lords cancel each other (Vipreet Raja Yoga), troubles turn into rise.
  • A yoga only delivers when the involved planets are strong by sign (own sign, exaltation, or in a friend's sign), well-placed by house, and not heavily afflicted by malefics or combustion.
  • Results unfold during the dasha and antardasha of the planets that form the yoga. A great yoga in the chart is a sleeping seed — the dasha is the rain that wakes it.

Core Raj Yoga

Kendra-Trikona Raja Yoga

Formation: Formed when the lord of a Kendra (1st, 4th, 7th, 10th house) and the lord of a Trikona (1st, 5th, 9th house) are connected — by conjunction, mutual aspect, or exchange of signs (Parivartana).

Result: The single most powerful classical Raj Yoga. Brings authority, recognition, wealth and rise in status. The native achieves a position of leadership, gains respect from society and enjoys long-lasting success. The strength multiplies when the connection happens in a Kendra or Trikona itself, especially in the 9th or 10th house.

Note: The 9th lord with the 10th lord (Dharma-Karma Adhipati Yoga) is considered the most auspicious form.

Dharma-Karma Adhipati Yoga

Formation: A specific and most celebrated Kendra-Trikona union — the lord of the 9th house (Dharma) and the lord of the 10th house (Karma) sit together, aspect each other, or exchange signs.

Result: Combines luck (9th) with action (10th). The native rises through their own karma backed by destiny — promotions, government favour, fame, wealth and a name that lasts beyond the lifetime. Considered the highest form of Raja Yoga in classical texts.

Lagna and 9th Lord Yoga

Formation: The lord of the 1st house (Self) and the 9th house (Bhagya / Father / Dharma) are conjunct, in mutual aspect, or in Parivartana.

Result: The native is fortunate from a young age. Father, teachers and elders support the rise. Personal effort gets blessed with luck. Brings dignity, righteousness, wealth and respect.

Lagna and 10th Lord Yoga

Formation: The 1st lord and the 10th lord are connected by conjunction, aspect or exchange.

Result: Career and identity become aligned. The person becomes well known for what they do — strong professional reputation, leadership roles, and steady worldly success.

Lagna and 5th Lord Yoga

Formation: The 1st lord and the 5th lord are connected.

Result: A sharp mind, intelligence, creative talent and good children. Often produces scholars, artists, advisors and people whose intelligence directly leads to status and wealth.

Vipreet Raja Yoga

Harsha Yoga (Vipreet Raja Yoga)

Formation: The lord of the 6th house is placed in the 6th, 8th, or 12th house — and is not connected to a Kendra/Trikona lord directly.

Result: Victory over enemies, freedom from disease, courage and gains through challenges. Dushasthana lords cancelling each other turns difficulty into rise. The native often becomes successful through fields like medicine, law, defence or service.

Sarala Yoga (Vipreet Raja Yoga)

Formation: The lord of the 8th house is placed in the 6th, 8th, or 12th house.

Result: Long life, deep insight, freedom from sudden troubles, and wealth through unexpected sources — research, occult, inheritance, insurance, mining, taxation. Strong intuition and survival power.

Vimala Yoga (Vipreet Raja Yoga)

Formation: The lord of the 12th house is placed in the 6th, 8th, or 12th house.

Result: Controlled expenses, hidden gains, foreign travel that prospers, spiritual depth, and an independent character. The native builds wealth quietly and avoids unnecessary loss.

Special Raja Yoga

Neecha Bhanga Raja Yoga

Formation: A debilitated planet gets its weakness cancelled — for example, the lord of the debilitation sign or the planet that exalts in that sign sits in a Kendra from the Lagna or the Moon.

Result: A classic “rise from the bottom” yoga. The native may start life with disadvantages — modest family, struggles, setbacks — but later rises to a remarkably high position. The harder the early life, the bigger the eventual success.

Sankha Yoga

Formation: The lords of the 5th and 6th houses are in mutual Kendra, and the Lagna lord is strong.

Result: Long life, charitable nature, righteous wealth, good children and virtuous spouse. Brings respect in society and a legacy of good deeds.

Bheri Yoga

Formation: Venus, Jupiter and the Lagna lord are placed in the 1st, 2nd, 7th, or 12th from each other; the 9th lord is strong.

Result: Wealth, fame, good spouse, long life and devotion to dharma. Native enjoys music, arts and refined pleasures along with worldly success.

Panch Mahapurusha Yoga

Ruchaka Yoga (Mars)

Formation: Mars is in its own sign (Aries / Scorpio) or exalted in Capricorn, AND placed in a Kendra (1st, 4th, 7th, 10th) from the Lagna.

Result: Produces a brave, commanding, athletic personality. Native excels in defence, sports, surgery, engineering, real estate or leadership roles. Strong willpower and physical vitality.

Bhadra Yoga (Mercury)

Formation: Mercury is in its own sign (Gemini / Virgo) and placed in a Kendra from the Lagna.

Result: Sharp intellect, eloquent speech, success in business, writing, communication, analysis and technology. The native is youthful, witty and well-spoken.

Hamsa Yoga (Jupiter)

Formation: Jupiter is in its own sign (Sagittarius / Pisces) or exalted in Cancer, AND in a Kendra from the Lagna.

Result: Wisdom, righteousness, religious authority, scholarship, teaching ability and a refined character. Brings respect, virtuous spouse and good children.

Malavya Yoga (Venus)

Formation: Venus is in its own sign (Taurus / Libra) or exalted in Pisces, AND in a Kendra from the Lagna.

Result: Beauty, charm, luxury, artistic talent, romantic happiness, vehicles and comforts. Often seen in artists, designers, performers and wealthy spouses.

Sasa Yoga (Saturn)

Formation: Saturn is in its own sign (Capricorn / Aquarius) or exalted in Libra, AND in a Kendra from the Lagna.

Result: Discipline, leadership over masses, long-lasting authority, success in politics, administration, mining, labour-related industries. Slow but unshakeable rise.

Classical Raja Yoga

Gajakesari Yoga

Formation: Jupiter is in a Kendra (1st, 4th, 7th, 10th) from the Moon.

Result: Fame, intelligence, wealth, virtuous character and influential friends. The native commands respect like an elephant (gaja) and lion (kesari) combined. Removes timidity from the mind and gives lasting reputation.

Budha-Aditya Yoga

Formation: Sun and Mercury are in conjunction in the same sign — best when Mercury is not deeply combust.

Result: Strong intellect, communication skills, government favour, administrative ability, success in writing and analysis. Excellent for officers, scholars, IT professionals and consultants.

Chandra-Mangal Yoga

Formation: Moon and Mars are conjunct or in mutual aspect.

Result: A powerful Dhana (wealth) Yoga. Brings money through business, real estate, partnerships and bold action. The mind is decisive and entrepreneurial. Especially strong in earth and water signs.

Lakshmi Yoga

Formation: The lord of the 9th house is in its own sign or exalted, placed in a Kendra or Trikona — while the Lagna lord is also strong.

Result: Great wealth, beautiful spouse, virtue, fame and a comfortable life. The native enjoys the favour of Goddess Lakshmi — both material and moral prosperity.

Kahala Yoga

Formation: The lord of the 4th and the lord of the 9th are in mutual Kendras and strong, with the Lagna lord also well-placed.

Result: Authority over land, vehicles, property and people. Often seen in industrialists, landlords, ministers and commanders.

Amala Yoga

Formation: A natural benefic (Jupiter, Venus, well-placed Mercury, or strong Moon) is placed in the 10th house from the Lagna or from the Moon.

Result: Spotless reputation, ethical career, lasting fame and respect. The person is remembered for honest work long after the position is left.

Parijata Yoga

Formation: A complex chain — the Lagna lord is placed in a sign whose lord is in a Kendra/Trikona, and that lord is in turn well-placed in dignity (own sign or exaltation).

Result: Mid-life success that grows steadily. The native enjoys wealth, recognition and comforts especially in the second half of life. Often a slow-bloomer yoga.

Akhanda Samrajya Yoga

Formation: Jupiter is the lord of the 2nd, 5th or 11th from the Lagna; the Lagna lord, 2nd lord, 9th lord and 11th lord are all strong; the 4th, 9th, or 11th from the Moon contains a strong Jupiter — combined classical conditions.

Result: Rare and very high yoga of authority. Indicates uninterrupted rise — power, vast resources, command over people and a position that endures. Often seen in heads of state, large business owners and influential public figures.

Adhi Yoga

Formation: Benefics (Jupiter, Venus, Mercury) are placed in the 6th, 7th and 8th houses from the Lagna or from the Moon.

Result: A leader who is loved by the public, blessed with health, wealth, victory over enemies and a long, honoured life.

Dhana / Raja-Dhana Yoga

Dhana Yoga (2nd–11th Lord Connection)

Formation: The lords of the 2nd house (accumulated wealth) and 11th house (gains) are conjunct, in mutual aspect or in exchange — ideally connected with the Lagna lord or 5th/9th lord.

Result: Steady accumulation of wealth — savings, investments, business profits, multiple income streams. When connected to a trine lord, becomes a full Raja-Dhana Yoga giving both money and status.

5th–9th Lord Dhana Yoga

Formation: The 5th lord and 9th lord are in conjunction, mutual aspect or exchange.

Result: Wealth through intelligence, advisory roles, education, speculation and the favour of fortune. Often combined with Kendra-Trikona Raja Yoga gives outstanding results.

Supportive Yoga

Shubha Kartari Yoga

Formation: Natural benefics (Jupiter, Venus, Mercury, waxing Moon) sit in the 12th and 2nd houses from the Lagna — the Ascendant is hugged by benefics on both sides.

Result: Protection, support from environment, ease in life, good upbringing and helpful circumstances. Strengthens any other Raja Yoga in the chart.

Final word

No single Raj Yoga decides a life. Real charts almost always carry several yogas — some pulling up, some pulling down. Read the chart as a whole: check the strength of each planet involved, the dasha sequence, and the divisional charts (especially D-9 Navamsa and D-10 Dashamsa). A modest-looking yoga supported by strong dignity and a timely dasha will outperform a famous yoga running on a weak, afflicted planet.
